Unified Remote is an application that turns your mobile device into a full remote control for your PC. It offers a convenient way of controlling a PC from a distance, letting you perform a whole lot range of actions wirelessly. Unified Remote requires a WiFi or Bluetooth connection.
Using the touch screen of your mobile device, you can simulate mouse movements and use the device's keyboard to input text directly in your computer applications. Besides mouse and keyboard input, the application includes other interesting functions, like controls to access the Start Menu and File Manager, through which you can browse your PC to find and open any files. Special remotes for media applications are equipped with controls to handle VLC, Windows Media Center, Spotify, YouTube, and others. Another useful function is the application's Power controls, which let you restart, hibernate, sleep, log off, shutdown your PC from your mobile device.
Setting up Unified Remote is extremely easy and connection can be established in minutes. You only need to install the server application on your computer and the client app in your device running Android or Windows Mobile. The application is currently available for Windows, but Mac and Linux versions are on the way. From the settings dialog, you can configure several parameters, like the security options adding a password to protect the connection.
The application comes in two versions, one of which is absolutely free, and there is a Full edition with extra functions like the possibility of creating widgets, NFC actions, and even voice commands. It's definitely worth a try.
